Web site design projects of the yore were not very complex and carried the sole purpose of displaying text onto your computer screen. Since then, web has come a long way with more complex navigation & and designs. The World Wide Web is "still in its infancy" but as the technology has evolved, it has now become difficult to manage the balance between practicality and compatibility, and between esthetics and availability. These artificial limits are not impossible to cross; we only have to look beyond them & work on the shortcomings, if any. Go through the points mentioned below to take a sneak peek into the future of web design.
• Simplicity - It's the most important attribute of a web site. The freelancers dealing with online web designing projects can no more ignore this fact. The seemingly overcrowded web pages, filled with irrelevant and confusing information tend to distract the users resulting in overall customer dissatisfaction.
• Speed - Freelancers handling web site design projects must create & optimize web pages so that they are downloaded quickly. Similarly in the case of web page ecommerce, the consumer wants to shop quickly without being bombarded with needless advertisements or lengthy buying procedures. An intelligent & successful website is one that takes care of all the needs of an end-user and is quick in doing it.
• Attractive Design - Website designing, especially ecommerce designing is more than just images and text or data. An ecommerce website is a marketing platform that represents your companies business and its products. A shabby looking website will surely drive away any potential customer. A website must have a personality & must reflect emotions. Therefore, freelancer undertaking online web designing projects must try and keep the designs attractive.
• Standardization - Standardization of web design is going to be the huge step forward on the World Wide Web. It's going to be about usability & functionality.
Web designing has evolved from being primitive to complex & will now move towards being simple and easy to use. The goal, eventually is to produce visually appealing and radically distinctive web designs which are compatible with all kinds of browsers and accessible to one and all.

How to Make It Easy To Buy From Your Site
A stunning design, a large product catalog or some mouth-watering discounts and offers, do not ensure that an ecommerce website will sell products continuously. To convince a customer to buy from an ecommerce website, one must create the trust and comfort in the prospective customer’s mind. Be it an ecommerce website design from India or the US or elsewhere, the buyers’ mindset remains the same everywhere.
Besides proper promotion, an ecommerce website must fulfill the following basic criteria so a customer buys the product:
Easy navigation
The key behind a successful ecommerce web site development process is in ease of navigation. Also, there should be search utility (with advanced search options) so that the customer may find out any product conveniently.
Complete information
The website should provide detailed information about the product with all specifications and variances. There should also be information about any new addition and available accessories.
Payment options
Usually, any ecommerce business solution integrates multiple payment options in a website. The payment processing section should be secured using SSL and should be authenticated by any reputed ecommerce payment processor. With prior permission (this is mandatory), logos of credit card companies or banks can also be used.
Returning customers
Any returning customer should be given little more priorities. This can be ensured by discounts, promotional coupons sent to the customer’s email address, seasonal gift coupons (amount proportional to previous purchase) or by simple invitation.
Shipment
The shipping service provider should always be a reputed one. If possible, shipping options from multiple shipping or courier service provider should be used. Once the product is shipped, the customer should be instantly informed and any tracking number for the shipment should be immediately provided.
Transparent policy
In any custom web site design from India or elsewhere with ecommerce options, the Terms of Service page, Contact Us page, Legal dispute details, purchase agreement (if any), return policies are generally given in a clear way. This helps in cementing the trust in customer’s mind and subsequently in selling the product.

Improving Functionality with Web Site Design
When you hire a web site design company they will do a thorough walk through of your site and make a list of all of the things you need to repair with the functionality. One of the things they will help you do is repair any broken links you might have on your site. Broken links can be frustrating to users. They can happen when files and folders are moved on your computer. The company will help you maintain an organized approach so you do not create broken links and problems on your site.
Another way a web site design company can help you is determine the depth of your site and if it is a problem. This is because if your most important web pages are more than 3 pages deep then you could be hurting your company. A site that is too many pages in depth will not be indexed through the search engines. A consultant can help you properly build your site with the appropriate depth.
Another element of functionality that is important is all of the additional features you may want to put on your site. These features may include the shopping cart, blog, contact, and more. If your features do not work properly then the users will go to another company for their needs. A web site design company can help you develop and repair features that are not working properly on your site.
They can help you create new features and help you maintain the site as well. Web site design is a factor that can cause your site to fail if there are functions that do not work properly. The last thing you want to happen is for users to go to another online business because your site doesn’t work. It is not acceptable to have broken links on the web pages.
The site cannot have too much depth and every feature you have on your site must work properly. Many online businesses fail because of poor functionality and they don’t even realize it. The best thing you can do is have a consultant verify the entire functionality of your site.

Top Software Programs For Web Site Design
Word processing and spreadsheets were the first of the killer apps for home computer when PCs first started to propagate to the millions of households out there. Then, there were Internet Browsers that took everyone by storm. So what are the hot categories and hot products now? There are more products out there now, than ever before for the home shopper and many of them are so incredible. In fact if I actually wanted to I could have done a top 100. The list is neither exhaustive nor scientific, but the products listed here are definitely great! If you have a computer at home, take a look at these products! I looked over many, many different products and product categories to find the best web site designer software programs, so with out further ado:
Adobe Dreamweaver 8 -
If you want to produce intricate Internet sites with e-commerce characteristics such as shopping carts, real-time database interaction, drop-down website menus and integrated multimedia, Dreamweaver is the optimum (albeit expensive) choice of web authoring tools for Windows and Mac users. Adobe Dreamweaver 8 is the darling of the professional web design community for its powerhouse features, including powerful support for Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) and all major scripting languages. Critical Reviews agree that although installing is a breeze and the user interface is so well organized that it gives an illusion of easiness, Dreamweaver is anything but easy. It is a heavy duty software developed for the most sophisticated web design and editing user. Great for professionals, but not advised for the beginner! I consider myself to be pretty technically inclined and though I absolutely love Dreamweaver and wish I could use it, its damn near impossible for me! Before spending hundreds, be sure to check yourself at the door, swallow your pride, and do the trial!
Coffee Cup Software -
Reviews say CoffeeCup 2006 is a proficient choice in website software for the everyday home or small business user. It's best for those seeking for a far less expensive and intimidating product that will still yield very impressive results. You don't need a $400 program like Dreamweaver just to design simple, effective websites. CoffeeCup is easy to learn, with an outstanding tutorial to accommodate novices. Coffee Cup lacks advanced e-commerce characteristics, so it's best for straightforward home or business Web Sites. You'll still need a domain name and a web-hosting service to actually post your Website.
Adobe Illustrator CS3 -
With Adobe Illustrator CS3 the user can design artwork for practically anything. Illustrator CS3 was designed with leading edge drawing tools, color tools, and type controls that aid the user in creating and experimenting with new ideas. The user friendly options allow for less time spent on each project which in turn improves performance and work out put. Adobe has integrated Illustrator to be compatible with other Adobe programs.
UltraEdit 14 Text Editor -
UltraEdit is the perfect text, HTML and HEX editor, and an advanced PHP, Perl, Java and JavaScript editor for programmers. An industry-award winner, UltraEdit supports disk-based 64-bit file handling (standard) on 32-bit Windows platforms (Windows 2000 and later). Powerful Text, HEX, HTML, PHP and Programmer's Editor. Suitable for general text editing, programmer's, web designers, binary editing, email, and all your editing needs.
SmartFTP -
SmartFTP is an FTP (File Transfer Protocol) client which allows you to transfer files between your local computer and a server on the Internet. With its many basic and advanced features SmartFTP also offers secure, reliable and efficient transfers that make it a powerful tool.
Web Studio 4.0 -
Now includes drag and drop PayPal shopping carts, vista and Internet Explorer 7.0 compatibility, flash slide shows and text fx. Web Studio is easy-to-use web design software that lets anyone to produce professional-looking web pages in just minutes. With web studio's drag-and-drop interface, WYSIWYG layout and easy-to-use features, building a web site is easy and exciting. And Web Studio's fully-integrated site hosting makes publication a snap. Free website hosting is also available to help you preview your work online! Whether you require a business web site or personal web pages, Web Studio is the web design software of choice.
Of course there are so many other software programs out there, but these were the ones that got the highest ratings for text editing, web design, logo editing and ftp. One of the best sites you can look at for further discussion on these, and other programs available to the new designer or the advanced designer is CNET. Good luck finding the best program to fit all your needs.

Tips For A Great, Effective Web Site Design
While surfing the internet I have seen many different types and styles of web sites. The design of all of the different web sites on the internet varies widely. I have noticed that within the last five years there has been a tremendous move towards Flash web sites or Flash elements in web sites. Personally I am not a huge fan of a web site built entirely in Flash, because I believe that it is too much for the user to absorb everything that is happening. Also when a search engine crawls a web site made completely with Flash it will not be able to pick up any text in the web site that is embedded in the Flash images. Normally a search engine will rank a Flash-only web site lower than a non-Flash web site, because there are more keywords included in the paragraphs of the web site that are not made completely with Flash. However using some Flash elements in a web site design is a great idea. Flash can help make your web site pop, and give the user a focal point that will draw their eye into your web site.
Web site design is the most important element of creating a web site. The design of the web site is what actually brings the users into the site and keeps them there. A major aspect of your web site design is the web site navigation. If the navigation of a web site design is not very good, then the user will leave the web site quickly, without really looking at much of anything. If the web site is difficult to read, or the colors are not appealing to the user then they may also leave. A good, clean, and simple web site is the best type of site to create, because it allows the user to navigate easily, and find the information that they desire.
Some people like to use navigation on the side and some like to use navigation on the top of the web site. No matter which you choose you want to be consistent, so that the user always knows where to go to move to another page. Personally I like to use the main navigation across the top of the page, with the secondary navigation down the left side. The main navigation will have the main points of the site, and the secondary navigation will allow the user to delve deeper into any one of the main navigation topics. I prefer to use navigation this way, because it allows the user to navigate to almost anywhere within the web site with only two clicks. One of the clicks will get them into the main topic, and then they can get into more detailed information relating to the main topic using the secondary navigation.
Recently I have looked at a few web site design companies in the UK. These design companies have very nice classic styles that are very easy to read, and they relay the information to the user in a very nice way. UK web site design seems to use fewer Flash elements, and more CSS and JavaScript techniques to entice the user. I also prefer CSS and JavaScript techniques, because they do not require Flash Player to be able to see the effects. Also these techniques are much more subtle than Flash elements. CSS and JavaScript are just text markups, so the text can still be read by the search engines’ spiders, which usually translates into a higher search engine ranking.

Avoid These Web Site Design And Writing Gaffles
Is your website doomed before it even gets off the ground? A badly-designed website can turn off potential customers before they even think about buying your product. Here are some website design mistakes that you should avoid.
1. Don't load your web site with a lot of high tech clutter. As a rule, avoid using fancy animation or script code unless it is absolutely necessary.. Those things only serve to distract from your sales message.
2. A website that loads slowly is just about the most annoying thing on the Internet. Don't use large graphics or anything else that dramatically increases your site's load time.
3. Don't make the mistake that everyone will totally understand your web site message. Use descriptive words and examples to get your point across.
4. Don't write your strongest point or benefit only once. You should repeat it at least 3 times because some people may miss it.
5. Don't push all your words together on your web site. People like to skim; use plenty of headings and sub headings.
6. Stay focused. Don't use site content your target audience isn't interested in. If people are coming to your site to find info about fishing, then don't include soccer content.
7. Keep a unified theme. Don't use 50 different content formats all over your web site. Use the same fonts, text sizes, text colors, etc.
8. Stick to the basics. Don't use words your web site visitors might not understand. People are not going to stop and look in a dictionary, they will just go to another site.
9. Don't let your selling words and phrases go unnoticed. Highlight important words and phrases with color, bolding, italics, underlining, etc.
10. Don't forget to use words that create emotion. All people have emotions, people will have more interest when they are emotionally attached.
11. Don't use unnecessary words or phrases on your site. You only have so much time to get your visitor's attention and interest; so make ever word count.
12. Stay organized by avoiding the "cluttered" look. I see plenty of websites that have banners and graphics strewn all over the place with no rhyme or reason. These sites look awful and , needless to say, I click away from them as quickly as possible.
By avoiding these website design mistakes, you increase the odds that visitors will stay on your site long enough to make that purchase.

Web Site Design Principles And Best Practices
The key to designing an excellent website, and doing it in the least amount of time, is planning. Internet web site design follows a set of principles which you must incorporate into your plan. Additionally, you’ll want to use a good web building tool to expedite the process.
Planning your web site on paper first is vitally important. I don’t mean planning every little detail, I just mean planning the look and feel of your homepage, as well as the navigation or flow chart of the various pages of your entire web site.
Think of your website as a pyramid with your homepage as the pinnacle of the pyramid. Your visitors will navigate from your homepage to your 2nd tier pages, and from there to the 3rd tier pages. In the beginning, you will just want to build your home page and the 2nd tier pages.
Here’s a Fast Track Technique to make your job of designing and building a website a lot easier:
All you really have to do is plan one page, your homepage, and then clone all your other 2nd and 3rd level pages. Your goal should be to make one perfect webpage, and then you’ll simply use this as your template and fill in the pages with different content.
Let’s look at the requirements of a successful webpage. A good webpage must fill the needs of the visitor to your site, as well as the needs of the search engines, and must also entice the visitor to click-thru to the merchant page where s/he can make a purchase.
But that’s not all. A webpage should also capture the name and email address of the visitor. There should be numerous places and opportunities for the visitor to opt-in to your newsletter or to get your freebie product. I recommend you put your opt-in email capture form on every page of your website. Getting your visitor’s name and email address is actually more important than selling a product to your visitor.
Optimizing your webpages for the search engines is especially important to get free, targeted traffic to your site. Using articles that you write about your business, combined with SEO webpage design principles practically guarantees an avalanche of targeted traffic to your website.
In addition to convincing your visitors to give you their name and email address, and optimizing for the search engines, a top notch webpage should also be designed to nudge the visitor along a pre-defined path to get the visitor to take a particular action. The action you usually desire the visitor to take is to click on the link that leads to your merchant page where a purchase can be made.
Here is where website navigation becomes vitally important. The amount of clicks from the time your visitor arrives at your website to the merchant page where the visitor is confronted with an offer should ideally be not more than three clicks.
The navigation must also be designed so that the visitor is not overwhelmed with choices. I see too many websites that offer a plethora of choices to the customer. This is a Big Mistake. A confused mind hesitates to make a purchase, or takes no action at all and exits the website in search of a simpler solution.
Design your navigation so that no more than five choices are offered at any one time. So your homepage might offer five category links at the top of your page, each of which might lead to five more 2nd tier links. This already adds up to 25 pages plus the homepage.
The navigation should also be placed in the same place on every webpage to make your visitor’s experience easy and pleasurable. You do not want a frustrated customer. The happy mood is the buying mood. What’s more, a good experience at your website ensures that your customer will return again and again to your website.
Offer excellent, easy to find content at your website. Design your webpages with simplicity in mind. Nothing fancy or complicated. Use a white background and easy to read fonts. Do not overdo the colors! Choose black type and one or two colored fonts and that’s it.
You need to convince your visitor that you are reliable, trustworthy, honest, and credible. To do that your webpages should be conservative, easy to navigate, and easy to read. It's also important to include your email address prominently.
By following these webpage design guidelines, everybody wins. The search engines do their job by delivering relevant content to the visitor (because your webpage has been optimized for the search engines). The visitor wins by effortlessly locating the information and product that s/he was seeking. The merchant wins by making a sale. And you win by collecting a commission from the sale. You also acquire the customer’s trust, as well as their name and email address, so that you can market to them again in the future.

Search Engine Optimization And Web Design
In the early days of the world wide web, having a good web presence meant that you must have a good web site full of rich content, and a good internet address that goes with it. It’s a generally accepted practice to publicize your Internet address to the world – well, at least to as much of it that you could cover. You Internet address, technically referred to as the URL of your website, became your key in making your site successful. The more Internet users that know of your website’s URL, the more people will visit it.
But that was before the Internet boomed, before its user base multiplied by millions, and before almost everyone else built web sites of their own, competing with your own in attracting users and readers. That was before modern search engines came to be, way before Google became a household verb, and changed the Internet in big ways. Now in the modern age of the internet, where search is the second most popular activity in the net, having a bumper sticker of your web site’s URL is no longer as cool or as effective as it used to be. You must now rely on one of the major pillars of a successful web site design – search engine optimization.
Search engine optimization is the method of increasing a web site’s ranking in search engine results listing. Before going further into the details of search engine optimization, it is good to know why it’s important to rank well in these listings and how it came to be.
Let’s see for example how a good web designer that is fully unaware of search engine optimization will lay things for a typical web design project: a very clear purpose for the website, a good aesthetic design, clear and concise words that are aptly toned for the target audience, an intuitive navigation and usable user interface, and for the writers’ part, a content that is rich and relevant and no-nonsense.
All things done right. In the end the client will have in his hand a well-designed web site full of information and content that is ready to take on the world of the Internet. Or is it? Before anything else, the million-dollar questions must be asked: how many users will read that rich and no-nonsense content that you have? How many customers will be able to see the products that you are trying to sell? How many clients will become aware of the services that you will offer? Search engine optimization is mostly about these questions. In fact it is mostly about trying to give the positive answers to these questions - many readers, many customers, and many clients.
Where do website users come from? In the early phases of a simple personal web site they usually come from the owner’s circle of family and acquaintances that are aware of your brand new URL. Although this may be enough for some personal web sites surely it will take a lot more hits than what those acquaintances would provide when a website is aiming for a larger and more geographically-unconstrained audience. After all, that is one thing that the Internet is all about – breaking geographical constraints. And for this kind of web site traffic need, there is but two words that answers that question of where your users will come from: search engines.
While there were search engines that existed before Google came to the scene, Google brought to the table a completely new way of searching information. The algorithm that Google used, relying heavily on links, (among many other important factors) proved to be very effective that it left other search engines in the dust. This revolution in search that gave relevant search results became so successful that it shaped the users’ habits in finding information on the Internet. Users stopped memorizing web site URLs, and started depending on the power of the search engine to give them back the relevant URLs for the information that they need. And though search engines can give you search results that spanned multiple pages, recent studies have shown that a few percentage of the users even bothered to go beyond the first page.
So that answers the why and how questions that we raised earlier about the importance of search engine listings to web site owners. As far as web design is concerned, everything that is mentioned above also points to one thing – that a good web design is just half the battle. Search engine optimization brings a whole new kind of a game to the table.
There is no definitive answer to the question: how will I make my web site rank well in Google (or Yahoo, or Alta Vista)? There are many factors that affect web site rankings, and the exact formula for this ranking algorithm is considered as a search engine company’s secret sauce that sets it apart from its competitors, and more importantly, this secrecy also serves as a protective wall that tries to prevent the contamination of search results with irrelevant contents and spam pages. But this doesn’t mean that they leave web site designers and owners in the dark. Search engine companies do help web designers and search engine optimization professionals in making pages that are more search-engine friendly. Online communities also exist that help others in their search engine optimization problems.
Search engine optimization is an established and growing industry of professionals who offer services for this specific purpose. But though people who specialize on this kind of optimization exist, it is also important that web designers understand the underlying concepts of search engine optimization. Though optimization techniques can be applied to the web site design towards or at the end of the project, having a good knowledge of the factors that improve a web sites’ search engine ranking saves the designer from cumbersome changes that might have to be done later if optimization is set aside. Having search engine optimization considerations as you design your web sites also focuses your design for a more definitive purpose. In the end knowing more about search engine optimization as a web designer is a big advantage for a more efficient web design resulting to a website that will be noticed and read by visitors all over the world.

Web Site Design Color For You
Color is an attitude. It can make you strong, weak, wild, wanting, passionate and complete. Colors can influence our behavior, feelings and psyche. In fact, colors are oftentimes used as treatment to psychotics and other mentally incapacitated persons.
However, when it comes to web designing, many designers overlook the enigmatic power of colors. It can bring life to any image, text or graphics. It can create the atmosphere needed in order to capture the viewer's decision and loyalty. These are the reasons why colors should be on our topmost list of things that need to be considered in mounting a web site. You don't want a drab looking site, do you? It will appear, melancholic, chaotic, plain and boring. Thus, colors must be chosen in order to complement the site's ambiance, feelings and purpose.
Web browsers only see 256 colors. However, there are times when the number may not appear as such because no browser shares the same 256-color pallet. Nowadays, web browsers are sharing 216 common colors. Thus, in order to complement to other web browsers, web designers must stick to the 216-color pallet. If they go beyond this color pallet, chances are the colors may not exist on other browser. In order for the browser to display that particular color, it will need tiny dots from the colors native to the browser. The process is called dithering. Unfortunately, this will result to the distortion of some tiny dots. Further, this will make the image appear speckled and without a solid color. In connection to texts, dithering will make them blurry and hard to read.
Verdict: Web designers must use browser safe color when using solid color as a design element. However, caution must be exercised.
There are times when we feel we are tricked by our eyes. In fact there is what we call mirage? An optical illusion and there is a long list of optical illusions that can otherwise trick us. But there are times when we are neither tricked or deceived in fact it is an act of science. How do this happen?
At the back of our eyes, there is a thin layer of tissue. This layer of tissue contains millions of tiny light-sensing nerve cells which are called rods and cones. Our eyes have ample decoding cones. These cones are the ones responsible for responding to specific wavelengths of light. Say, when you look at a red box, the cones that have detected the red wavelength become exhausted and fatigued. As a result, opposite cones in the eyes start to enter and different colors are made apparent.
Eye fatigue is one of the important considerations in designing a web site. Thus, avoid colors that are tiring to the eyes. It can result to disaster and can further result to giving of wrong notion or idea to the viewers. Colors like red and yellow, strains the eye faster than any other colors. Thus, limit the use of these colors. Use them on areas that need emphasis and focus. This will surely pull viewers attention. Other that those areas - a big no-no!

Web Site Design
These days if you are in business and don't have a website you are missing out on an abundance of customers. Everyone that has a computer in their house will be using one of the search engines (google, Yahoo, Msn etc.) to look for your business. There are over 20 million searches done every hour on the internet in the UK alone. If your business is not appearing on these search engines then you are losing out to your competitors that are looking for what you do.
You will be asking yourself I have done without a website till now so why would I need one? It is a good question If you are currently doing well with your business then that is great but can anyone turn round and say that they don't want anymore business? If you do say that then what happens if your business starts to lose some customers then you will start to try and get new business elsewhere. A website is THE way to generate extra enquiries and more business than any other means of advertising.
More and more people these days are turning to local searches and with broadband the internet is connected in their house 24 hours a day 7 days a week. In all honesty do you even know where you keep your yellow pages anymore? There is really no need as with the internet if you need a plumber in your area goto yahoo and type in plumber ( your area ) and a list of sites will come up with plumbers in your area. If you are a plumber how much would you pay to have your site appearing on those searches above your competitors? How much would that be worth to you in business terms?
The answer is easy... A lot. 5 or 10 years ago that listing in the yellow pages would mean as much to you as the listings you get on the search engines today.
A website for your business could be for several different reasons. You could use your website as a brochure to advertise the products you offer how much more could you show on your website compared to an advert in the paper? Instead of having a few lines in the paper explaining your business you could have 10 or 20 pages outlining what you do and the products you offer and give a more in depth description of all your products. For an ad in your local paper for say 3 lines of text would cost you say £50 for 1 week if you had your own website it would cost say £250 per year and the website would be online and available to view 24/7 365 days a year.
You could also use your website to keep your existing customers in the know on exactly what you are offering. If your existing customers go onto your website and sign up for your newsletter everymonth you could email them any product updates you have. If you don't have the time to email you could also have a news section on your website that can be updated on a monthly basis and that would allow your customers to log into your website and view any updates since their last visit. New business is good to develop but your existing customers are already doing business with you so why not use your website to maximise the sales you get from your existing customers.
All in all a website for your business is an essential to to maximise profits for your business. To generate new business and also to keep your existing customers up-to-date with any changes or product ranges that they could be interested in. More business or not the choice is yours.

The pillars behind an accessible creative business web site design
User friendliness, good look & feel and fast & easy communication are some of the features of any successful and cheap website design to target the prospects.
Only pretty images would not satisfy their quests. A site that is not visually appealing can drive a user away before he completes his task. Certain other things are also necessary here to make the website usable.
Creative Design, Usability, Accessibility and some Basic Browser Design guidelines are of great importance to decide the fate of any website to look visually appealing and stunning as well.
Creative website design:
The design of any visually appealing website is such that the prospects would find the site to be interesting to stay long in the website and get the required info perfectly. Provided, the website has to be easy to read and easy to navigate also.
Just by following some basic design standards this creative standard can be established easily.
Colors: The true cross-platform color palette is 216 colors.
Fonts: Just try using the common user fonts so that he site would open in any computer. In this regard, it is necessary to point that some usual fonts can make this happen. Times New Roman, Arial, and Helvetica are the most commonly used fonts. These fonts are easy to read on a computer screen.
Screen Resolutions: a resolution of 1024x768 is the most prevalent in the web design industry. The second most common is 800x600 designs. It is wise to make a liquid layout that fits automatically in any computer without any break-up of images and info. Rigid layout, in this case, would obviously upset a user who is seeing a 1024x768 layout in his 800x600 compatible screen. Which resolution used must be carefully considered.
Images: Nearly every website uses images. Images are of great use for selling products and for displaying company branding. Unnecessary use of images here would have no purpose at all, but those are used to please the viewers. This would unnecessarily make the page size bigger. Using ALT tags with images for accessibility are of high note.
Brower Compatibility
There is more than one browser that is used on the web. Designing one such site for a specific browser would simply lose the real purpose of the website. It is better to test them all. The most popular are Internet Explorer (5-7), Firefox, Mozilla, Netscape 7/8.
Usability:
“Put usability first. Practice simplicity”.
Jakob Nielsen, usability Design Expert, “Designing Web Usability: The Practice of Simplicity”
Not only for completing the information architecture for a site, but also for the creative design usability of any large or small professional website design matters largely. The users should not face any difficulty in finding what they want actually.
Following are some of the basic rules of usability:
• The same basic style should prevail in all pages on the site.
• Other than having a basic style maintained with rest of the pages, the Home Page should have a different design from the rest of the site.
• The brand (logo) and/or company name must generally be placed in the upper left-hand corner (sometimes it is located elsewhere for the Home Page and is larger).
• Only 20% of a page should be occupied for the navigation, though for home page it is something different. It actually varies from site to site as per the reach of the topics.
• Generally, the top horizontal of the page and the left-hand vertical of the page are two most common locations for navigation.
• Please do not display the same links in the footer as you do in the main level navigation. Footers usually contain links namely, Help, Contact Us, Privacy Policy, Feedback, etc…
• You can have the printer friendly options if the site content displayed is suitable for printing.
• For any site that has a lot of content, consider creating ‘sub sites’. Breaking the site down into sections (similar to chapters in a book) with each section having its own landing page would simply make the site look orderly. Often the users can easily remember what specific info they want to see in which sub site.
• Please use percentages (%) instead of pixels to define widths on table definitions and backgrounds/borders for the sake of Resolution Independent Design. the users screen resolution can get an unaffected display quality using percentage (%). This can be a long process and requires testing the site in different screen resolutions, but it would pay off in the long run.
Accessibility:
Thinking about the disable users as well while making any website is the best option. If it is not for the humanity, then at least for the chance of not missing any such possible prospect that can be disable, the accessible website design issues should be dealt in with care and concern. Those persons use different technologies to browse the web (such as screen readers). Colors, fonts, use of certain development technologies, images; all these things need to be carefully selected for a web site to be accessible.
Also the W3C has defined Web Content Accessibility Guidelines. It is not expected that all the sites should follow that rules, but the web design professionals can at least review them and decide what can be done to make the site accessible.

Outsourcing Web Site Design Concept
The Information Technology industry is very recognizable with the concept of outsourcing. Some years ago, outsourcing was related only to programming services. In the last combine of years, outsourcing of creative design, especially web site design, is becoming quite extraordinary. Communication with Asian countries has become quite expedient with the initiation of internet telephony and the acceptance of working odd hours. There is an implicit protocol to follow when outsourcing creative design or Website design work to India. Some of these come over a period of time with practical experience, and some of them are common guidelines to help you get the maximum out of working with an in a foreign country web site designer. The most useful way of selling on the internet is to personalize your web site to reach your target viewers. Many web sites are general and try to reach everybody. The certainty is that you can't be everything to everybody.
The business owners who are successful on the web normally have very specific products or services that target a forte promote. One of the main problems which designers and customers face is the content and other related inputs for the web site. It is best that all the information is sent to the designers up front so that they have enough material to work with and can thus produce better results. Using images and examples of other web sites which you like or are relevant to your requirements can help get the point across faster. Websites of a single company will be very expensive, however, web site design and development companies design, development, and maintenance as it is a highly dedicated task involving a team of experts from various fields like Software development, graphics, content development, conceptualizing and visualizing. Though email is a good way to communicate, it cannot be the only way. Conversations and chats help in interacting with your offshore team better and also help in guiding them on what the issues on web site design may be. You want to conduct e-commerce and sell to a national or international market. You'll have some kind of ordering system for one or more products, or perhaps an extensive online catalog. You may offer an online service that can be delivered over the Internet or that can be initiated online.
Designing a web site is an iterative process and there is no way that a project on web site design is completed within the first cut. Working with designers will require some patience and would also test your skills as a manager. You might require some basic skills in designing to be able to communicate with the Offshore web site designer. Working with an offshore designer can produce good results provided the designer and you are on the same page. In order to achieve this, you might need to explain the business background of the web site and cultural issues, if any. Do keep in mind that the web designer is not able to see you and neither are you able to see his working style in real life. One of the main reasons for using offshore web site designers is that the cost comes down dramatically. Apart from the cost, you are likely to get a dedicated web site designer who will ensure that the work is done as per your requirement and would provide good quality service. However, you need to know that dealing with an offshore designer is different from having a local designer do the project and it is best for you to be prepared to face this difference.

Forget the Phone Book: Make Your Internet “Listing” Shine with Good Web Site Design!
If you wanted a cult DVD you couldn’t find in stores, are you more likely to spend a few minutes searching the Internet to order it online or drive from store to store for hours, asking salespeople to help you search the store, only to be disappointed? If you needed a vet for your new kitten, are you more likely to type “Vets in [Your Area]” into a search engine and read about each veterinarian online or take your chances on a one-inch ad you found in a phone book?
The Pew Internet & American Life Project (www.pewinternet.org) has found that 41% of the 70 million Americans who log on each day say that the Internet has helped make shopping easier and 81% of them research a product or service online before they buy. An estimated 4 million Americans buy a product or service online each day.
If your company doesn’t have a Web site, chances are that your competitors do, and you automatically lose the “battle” over a myriad of potential customers. If you have a Web site that’s visually unappealing or difficult to navigate, people are going to leave your site behind and head over to an attractive, easy-to-use Web site that comes up above your listing in a search engine.
It doesn’t matter if you don’t or can’t do any business online, the Internet is a more extensive phone book. Attract customers to your door with a well-designed Web site with search engine optimization so that your Web site comes up in search engine requests near the first results page. Let your potential customers know what your company does, what you charge, and where you’re located. Share some positive customer reviews.
If you’re a small business, you might benefit from a simple three-page Web site design package, with free one-year Internet hosting and a domain name, thirty free days of Web site updates if you come up with some more ideas after a few days of being online, and a completely original professional Web site design.
The Executive Business Center at www.theebc.com is one professional Web site design, hosting, and ecommerce company that offers a couple of basic Web site packages for the small business on a limited budget! Get all of the above services with TheEBC.com’s Basic Starter Web site design package for only $299!
Or try TheEBC.com’s Custom Start Web site design package for only $399. Both packages include the same amenities except that TheEBC.com will design your Web site off of pre-designed (but unique) templates with the Basic Starter package and will completely design a Web site look to match your business with the Custom Starter Web design package. With either package, you can add additional Web pages for $50 each.
If you want a more engaging Web site with near limitless potential and high-exposure advertising, TheEBC.com has the $799 New Plan Web site design package. You get a completely original custom Web site design, free hosting and a domain name for a year, unlimited pages, unlimited and free Web site updates throughout the year, search engine optimization, and search engine submission for six months.
If you already have a Web site that hasn’t been pulling in enough traffic, don’t give up on online exposure just yet! You can get all of the benefits of TheEBC.com’s New Plan Web site design package with the $599 Existing Plan package. Transfer any Web site content you wish to keep, transfer your domain name, and get a completely revamped Web site look! TheEBC.com completes Web sites for clients that choose any of these four packages in only 2-3 weeks!
If you run your business completely online, a well-designed Web site with an effortless online shopping system is especially important as the Internet is your one and only place of business. If you have a store location, think of how much more business you could do by going global and selling your products online, too!
Get all the best of TheEBC.com’s New Plan and Existing Plan Web site design packages in addition to a complete shopping cart and check out system as well as unlimited product listings with TheEBC.com’s e-Shop Plan for $999! Get your online e-Shop Web site completely up and running within 4-6 weeks!

Web Site Design - Makes your dreams come true - Makes your dreams come true
Web design is a process of conceptualization, planning, modeling, and execution of electronic media delivery via Internet in the form of Markup language suitable for interpretation by Web browser and display as Graphical user interface (GUI).
In a more simple way "A representation of content, related to an individual, business or any other topic; using design and graphic principles on the internet in the form of web applications and web sites is known as web design."
Typically web pages are classified as static or dynamic.
Static pages don’t change content and layout with every request unless a human (web master/programmer) manually updates the page.
Dynamic pages adapt their content and/or appearance depending on end-user’s input/interaction or changes in the computing environment (user, time, database modifications, etc.) Content can be changed on the client side (end-user's computer) by using client-side scripting languages.

Do You Own Your Web Site Design?
by: Richard A. Chapo
Your web site has been up for a few months and you are making money hand over foot. While surfing sites one evening, you are shocked to find a competitor using your design. You find out your designer sold them the same design. They must be breaking the law, right? It all depends on whether you own the copyright to your web site design. Many site owners are shocked to find out they do not.
What is Copyright?
Copyright is a method of protection for authors of original works such as literature, computer programs, music, artistic pieces and photographic images. The protection provided by copyright arises under Title 17 of the United States Code. A copyright gives the owner the exclusive right to do or authorize others to: reproduce, prepare derivative works, distribute copies, publicly display and generally use the material that carries the copyright in exchange for something, typically a royalty or fee. The copyright owner often grants this use through a license agreement, but can sell it outright.
Who Can Claim Copyright?
Copyright protection is created IMMEDIATELY upon the creation of a fixed form of the material in question and granted to the person that created the material. For instance, I automatically own the copyright to this article upon completing it. I am not required to file for an official copyright with the US Copyright Office to prove that I am the owner of the content. However, if I want to sue a person for using my article without permission, I must first register it.
What If I Hire Someone To Create A Web Site For Me?
If you hire a person or company to handle the design of your site, the complexities of copyright become a major issue for you. Specifically, the issue of "work for hire" is critical in determining whether you own the design.
"Work for hire" refers to the relationship between your business and the person creating your web site. If this person is an employee of your business and creates the material within their scope of employment, then your business owns the copyright. However, what happens when the designer is not an employee? In such a situation, the following must occur for the copyright to automatically transfer to you. The work must be specially ordered or commissioned for use as:
- A contribution to a collective work,
- A part of a motion picture or other audiovisual work,
- A translation,
- A supplementary work,
- A compilation,
- An instructional text,
- A test,
- Answer material for a test, or
- An atlas.
It is my opinion that the design of a web site does not fall into any of the above categories. As a result, you do not own the copyright to the design and can do nothing about the fact that one of your competitors is using the design. Obviously, this is not the answer that most site owners want to hear. So, what can you do to protect your business?
When you hire an outside party to design, alter, amend or improve your site, you must have them sign a written contract. The contract must include a clause clearly establishing that the copyright to the material produced is vested with you, not the designer. You should then file the contract with your important documents as some designers "forget" that assigned the copyright to you. Presenting a copy of the contract and noting that it allows for the recovery of attorney's fees usually solves the problem.
The issue of copyright ownership of a web site or aspect of a site pops up often. Finding your design being used on another domain is bad enough, but it can get worse. If you sell your business, the attorney for the party purchasing your business will always ask about the copyright of the site as part of the due diligence process. More than a few business deals have fallen apart when the lack of copyright ownership is discovered. Obtaining copyright at the outset of your business effort will avoid serious problems in the future.

10 Ways to Achieve Superior Web Site Design
by: Maricon Williams
In order to achieve online success, one must have effective and reliable products and services and great web design as well. Many people are judging the book by its cover this is the reason why your website should also be superior.
Here are 10 ways to carry out in order to ensure that your website design will turn out to be a superior one:
1. Keep those banner programs away. Avoid plastering your pages with every banner program you can think of because it is like broadcasting to the whole world that you are a neophyte in the industry. Besides, it is useless when you are just starting out.
2. Proof read the whole site. Poor grammar and spelling is a manifestation of being unprofessional. If you can not pay attention to small things like that then how can the potential customers know that you can make a product or service great? Always have some rounds of spell check and have someone proof read the site. That way you can be assured of its content quality.
3. Evade "clip-art" type graphics. Learn to make your own graphics that will exude your business character and identity. You can get your hands on with Adobe Photoshop. However, if you are short on money, Macromedia’s Fireworks is a good alternative.
4. Forget about yourself! Nobody wants to hear about you. They want to hear about your products or services and how you can help them. So instead of focusing on yourself, focus on the functionality of your website. That will give lots of visitors that can turn out to be your customers.
5. Keep a consistent design. Inconsistent designs, backgrounds and navigation systems make the visitors feel lost. They will feel as if they have transferred to another site. To avoid this thing to happen, utilize a consistent web site design.
6. Stay away from excessive backgrounds. If you do not know what background to choose, stick with a plain one and blend it with a well contrasting text. The result will be an easy to read website.
7. Use small images. Use images that are small in file size. To do this, you can compress your images to a more reasonable size.
8. Keep your font size readable. Have your fonts at reasonable size. The content fonts should not exceed size fourteen and should not go down lower than size twelve. Using gigantic fonts are the biggest indicator of someone who knows nothing about designing online!
9. Keep your site clean and organized but not boring. Don’t scare your visitors away by crowded and messy website with neon colored texts. If that’s your kind of web site – my golly – change it! And you got to do it fast before a number of visitors already transferred to your competitors.
10. Check with every browser. Every web browser interprets code differently. Some may display the page perfectly however, some may do it atrociously thus, to be safe check with different browsers to test the compatibility.

I'm more enthusiastic about writing however, since you can relay your ideas to someone else. I can only imagine that feeling when I hear a complete stranger talking about my ideas which read on an article somewhere. To relay my message to as many people is the same as touching people with music. Only mine's less harmonic. I try to make up for it with the color I bring with words. And most of the time, it’s more than enough.

Web Site Design – Focus, Focus, Focus
by: Halstatt Pires
When creating a web site design, it is easy to fall into the trap of trying to be all things to all people. In reality, the key to a good web site design is focus, focus, focus.
We Don’t Need No Stink’n Distractions
It happens ever few weeks or so. I am sitting in front of the computer contemplating the meaning of life, i.e., why my numbers aren’t being picked in the California lottery. A frustrated person calls and wants to know why their site isn’t converting. Shaking myself from my revelry, I valiantly pull up their site and here is what I find.
A mess.
The front page is a mass of blinking this and floating that. In really nasty situations, there will be something like a banner telling me the weather conditions in some city.
As if I cared.
I don’t even look at the weather in San Diego. Okay, we don’t really have any, but that isn’t the point.
The point is a site must have focus to covert traffic into revenue. This is known as the rule of one. Every page of a site should focus on one subject, product, thing, picture or whatever is relevant to your site.
If you have a page devoted to disco shirts with huge lapels, then everything on the page should focus on disco shirts with huge lapels. Typically, such a page would consists of brief text describing the disco shirts, thumbnails of the shirts and prices. The page should not include disco cds for sale. The cds should get their own page.
Don’t believe me? Then let us kneel at the alter of Google. The Google Adsense program is designed to let you put Google advertisements on your site. To put the ads up, you simply copy and paste a script provided by Google. Once the site is republished, each page with script will show Google ads. If you look at each page, you will note the script produces different ads for different pages. Further, the ads on each page correspond to the subject matter on the page.
Why does Google do this? Because ads that are relevant to the focus of the page will be clicked more than ads that are not. Put another way, the Adsense program is designed to focus on a single subject matter. The rule of one rears its head again.
Are you seeing a trend here?
If your site isn’t converting well, analyze the pages to see if you are focusing on one topic. If you have a weather banner on your site, there better be a very, very good reason.

7 Fisherman's Tips to Avoid Losing Money on Your Web Site Design
by: Ian McAllister
Web site design to hook a customer is very like fishing. Try these seven tips to make money.
--------------------------
Step 1. Research.
----------------------
What - you don't think a fisherman starts with research? How does he know not to fish in the bathtub? How does he know not to fish for dorado in USA? How does he know that his favorite lemon meringue pie on a sardine hook won't catch sharks?
Imagine you've invented a 100% cure for Paraguayan piques. You pay a graphic designer to make your web site design. After a year you still haven't been able to make money. Your host tells you that the few visitors that you had only stayed for ten seconds.
Research would have told you that
*Your prospects speak GuaranĂ not English
*Most of them can't read GuaranĂ
*Even fewer speak English
*Most of them don't have computers
A little research at Overture would have told you that only 3791 people looked for pique in a month, but most of them were interested in polo, not in an insect. Does your potion kill Jiggers? 1432 people searched on that word, and they were mostly North Americans. Perhaps you could make money from them?
If your web site design could inspire 10% of these searchers to visit your sales page and 10% of these bought from you that would give you 14 clients per month. Would that make money enough to pay for your web site design? You've been fishing in your bathtub!
-----------------------
Step 2 Preparation
-----------------------
As a fisherman you've discovered what fish are in your area, what will attract them to where you are, and found a spot where you won't get your line tangled up with other fisherman's lines.
My research for this article showed that 'web site' had half a million searches but people could be totally uninterested in web site design. 'Web site design' had only a third of a million searches, but readers were more targeted. There were 239 advertisers on Overture, which shows that it is popular, and there are only 24 million competitors.
'Build a website' had less than 50 thousand searchers, but 337 million competitors. Ouch! I think my lines would get tangled!
So the rule is: find what people want then design your web site with pages filled with the information that they want. If nobody is interested in your subject, advertise offline or find another subject for your web site design.
-----------------------
Step 3 Get crowds
-----------------------
You sprinkle oatmeal soaked in your secret ingredient on the water, and soon fish are following the scent back to where you are.
Your first task is to make your web site design attractive to visitors.
Tuna fishermen throw un-baited hooks into the mass of fish and pull them out in a sort of rhythm. The hook, which has no barb, snags a fish which falls off into the hold, and the hook is thrown out again, with the whole process taking a few seconds.
Google Adsense is excellent to make money from this kind of web site design.
--------------------
Step 4 Research
--------------------
But that was in step 1 you object? Your research should never end. Talk to the other fishermen. Visit fishermen's forums. Search Google for information. Your oatmeal has attracted fish, but when you put it on the hook it washes off.
You must find what bait will stay on the hook long enough for hungry fish to bite. This will vary from season to season. Experiment and record your results.
Research for your web site design should never stop. Try different ideas to make money and record your results.
-----------------
Step 5 Pre-sell
-----------------
OK. Your fish are crowding round you. Your bait has some colorful feathers disguising the hook. You want to persuade the fish that your bait is more attractive than the scraps of oatmeal.
Your web site design should start to describe your experience with whatever it is that you are selling to make money. You should try to communicate in all your web site design just how interesting you find what you are offering.
---------------------------------
Step 6 Arouse Enthusiasm
---------------------------------
Keep pulling your bait through the water so that fish will think
*I'd better act while the food is there!
*It's heading towards the other fish. I'd better be quick!
*I may get a better offer, but what if I don't?
If your web site design is aimed at affiliate income, don't try to sell yet. You strike only after the bait is in the fish's mouth. Let the vendor handle the last step.
-----------------------
Step 7 Hook Them
-----------------------
Once the fish has the bait in it's mouth you strike to drive the barbs home, then the fish can't leave go. Then you pull the fish in, and eat it.
Oops! I'm not advocating cannibalism! Once your web site design has hooked a customer the same rules no longer apply.
------------
Bonus Tip
------------
To succeed, your web site design must have ways to keep your customers so happy that they will keep coming back again and again.
Your web site design must obviously have a contact page. You should have a frequently asked questions page. You should offer further sales of related products to make money for you. If you eat your client you won't have her returning again and again.
